On March 6, 2025, the Asian Canadian Labour Alliance (ACLA) took part in the community fair hosted by New One: Learning Without Borders at New College, University of Toronto. The event provided an opportunity for students to connect with grassroots organizations and gain insights into social justice movements in Canada.
New One is a first-year foundation program designed to foster intellectual curiosity and social engagement through small-class learning. Its emphasis on community building and social justice made it a fitting space for ACLA to showcase its work in advocating for workers’ rights, racial justice, and equity in the workplace.
ACLA’s booth attracted students eager to learn about the role of Asian Canadian workers in labour history, the fight for fair representation in unions, and ongoing campaigns for migrant and precarious workers’ rights. Representatives from ACLA engaged in discussions on labour activism, the impact of systemic racism in workplaces, and the importance of coalition-building across different social movements.
