On Oct 14, the Asian Canadian Labour Alliance (ACLA) delivered a workshop at USW Canada’s inaugural Racial Justice Summit in Langley, BC. A joint project of ACLA’s British Columbia and Ontario Chapters, the workshop featured ACLA’s travelling exhibit.
Participants explored historical and contemporary anti-Asian racism in Canada, examined how Asian labour and anti-Asian racism have shaped both Canada’s labour movement and the Canadian state, and connected the concept of racial capitalism to the labour movement’s pursuit of racial justice.
The workshop also invited labour activists to identify concrete actions to strengthen anti-racist practices, support racialized union siblings, and uproot systemic racism within unions and beyond.
