The Asian Canadian Labour Alliance (ACLA) – Ontario Chapter celebrated its 25th anniversary with a community picnic at Dufferin Grove Park in Toronto. Friends, allies, and supporters gathered to mark the milestone with food, conversation, and reflection on ACLA’s history and impact.
The event featured remarks from Winnie Ng and Salmaan Khan, who presented findings from their recent report, The Importance of Unions in Reducing Racial Inequality. Their work highlights how unions remain a critical force in advancing equity and protecting workers of colour from systemic discrimination.
The celebration also paid tribute to several ACLA founders who were in attendance. Their leadership and vision laid the groundwork for a quarter-century of advocacy, organizing, and solidarity within the Asian Canadian community and the broader labour movement.
As ACLA looks ahead to its next 25 years, the gathering served as both a joyful reunion and a reminder of the importance of collective struggle for justice in workplaces and society.
